Scott Saunders is founder and CEO of a young and ambitious online comparison engine called Payroll Supermarket. He is also co-organiser of the British Invention Show and awards.

Scott shot into the public eye in 2015 when he managed to rise above over 20,000 applicants of budding entrepreneurs from all around the globe to secure a slot on the BBC prime time smash hit show The Apprentice with Lord Alan Sugar. Scott successfully fought and battled his way through to the 9th round, where, in a rebellious act of defiance he sent shock waves through the nation when he decided to walk out of the board room and leave the show on his own terms, rather than being hired or fired. In the 12 year history of the show, and of the 140 candidates this has only ever happen before twice.

  • Be the best that you can be in anything you’re doing
  • I always thought I was just going to be a millionaire, because that’s what happens. But you really have to develop yourself to become someone of that calibre.

  • When you write things on paper it makes your mind work harder and want to push even more to make it happen

  • I felt so strongly about my idea and how far it’s come, that I knew I could push it to the next level

  • Don’t get me wrong it’s very tough at times, but now I am the creator of my destiny
  • It can be lonely starting off your company… but it’s a small sacrifice for a short space of time Experience is key to finding success
  • I try to steer clear of being worried and scared, however it does happen
  • Just keep going. Keep on going. Keep on going.
  • It is very very important to build your contacts and meet as many people as you can
  • We become that what we believe the most (MP)
  • Be creative. Go out there and try something else. Be an entrepreneur.
  • Go against the status  quoThe whole world doesn’t want you do do it. It doesn’t want you to do it at all. But you have to. That’s an entrepreneur someone going outside their comfort zone and making it happen
  • Get your mind in the right place by not listening to people who have a negative impact on what you want to achieve
  • We should, from a young, age be taught about money and the value of money
  • If you want something, go and get it
  • We only live once, just go for it.

If you could go back to any point in your life, and have 1 hour with your past self; what moment would it be and what would you tell yourself?
01:00:25  –  I would also take myself back to when I was 16 years old and tell myself: ‘from this moment on, make sure you put away 25% of what you earn and don’t touch it’. You don’t realise how important this is and you also won’t believe how fast the time goes. It’s crucial. Make sure you do it too.

What role does disruption and innovation play for you in your  business?
01:01:11   – Disruption is a good thing for your company, but depends on how far and who you’re disrupting. But innovation is a huge part of where we are today.

If you could change one law what would it be?
